Wooden walkway

Awarded by the, in September 2016, World Travel Awards, the 8km-long wooden walkway (linear) allows you to walk from the steep rocky slopes along the river. From here, you have great views.

If you wish, you can be accompanied by a guide.

During the trip through the valley, you will get to know several geologically and archaeologically interesting sites, the characteristic flora and fauna of the area. Moreover, you will have a beautiful view of the famous whitewater river.

History and background of Wooden walkway

The wooden walkway is a relatively new attraction that opened in 2015. The project was developed by Arouca municipality as a way to promote tourism in the region. The idea for the footbridge came about after the municipality conducted a study on the possibilities of promoting the Paiva River as a tourist destination.

The construction of the footbridge took more than a year and a half and required the efforts of more than 100 people. The result is an impressive 8-kilometre-long structure stretching along the banks of the Paiva River.
